Jonnie Irwin ‘felt disgusting’ when he dropped to just six stone during cancer treatment | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Jonnie Irwin has admitted he “felt disgusting” during intense cancer treatment as he shed light on the heartbreaking toll it has taken on his body.

The A Place in the Sun star, 49, has revealed he drastically dropped to a dangerously low weight of just six stone.

He recalled looking in the mirror and feeling “shocked” at the way he looked which left him feeling “disgusting”.

During his battle with cancer, the star has struggled to walk and has been living in constant pain.

Jonnie was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020 and was told by doctors he likely only had six months to live.

Speaking to the Sun about his lowest point, he said: “Lying in the hospice, I thought I’d had it. I was on the cusp of death.

“I’d never thought about dying, despite the cancer, and Jess and I don’t talk about it.”

He confessed: “At my weakest point I thought, ‘This is it, this is the beginning of the end.’

“I couldn’t eat, I had incredible pain in my back and was just skin and bones.”

However, Jonnie refused to give up and he decided to fight for his life once he returned home.

He started forcing himself out of bed, drinking protein shakes to build up his strength and spending hours in an oxygen tent in a bid to curb any growth of the disease. He also underwent treatment, including chemotherapy.

Now, Jonnie weighs 8st 6lb and goes on days out with his children.

Defying the odds, Jonnie decided to go public with his diagnosis last November after being told his cancer had spread to his brain.

The Channel 4 star, who was admitted to a hospice, was warned by doctors he wouldn’t make his twins’ third birthday party two weeks later.

He decided to return home with his wife Jess, 40, to spend what the couple feared would be their final, precious days together with twins Rafa and Cormac, and eldest son Rex, four.

Nearly six months after that hospice stay, he is jetting off to Spain to celebrate his 50th Birthday – a milestone he never thought he would see.
