Shane MacGowan flooded with support as wife posts harrowing hospital pic in health update | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV
Shane MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke has shared a harrowing picture of him from hospital as she sent “love and prayers” to those also suffering in a new update this week.
The Pogues singer has been in and out of hospital since being diagnosed with viral encephalitis last year.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Victoria shared a picture of the 65-year-old using breathing apparatus from his bed.
She wrote: “I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who has been messaging me and @ShaneMacGowan and thank you @spiderstacy and Terry Woods for coming to visit him.
“Love and prayers for everyone who is struggling right now, hang in there!”
Victoria was swiftly inundated with supportive messages from many of her 32,000 followers in the comments section.
One wrote: “So much love and positive warmth for you both. Shane is an incredibly talented man, but you radiate so much love and strength. My best to you both.”
A second commented: “Sending love to you all, Danny xx.”
“Wishing you all the love and a speedy recovery. Your music has deeply touched many, including myself. May you find strength and comfort during this time. Your resilience is inspiring,” a third typed.
Shane’s wife’s post came just hours after she shared an emotional post on her Instagram page about his health.
In view of her 27,000 followers, she posted a picture of the pair sharing a tender kiss alongside a lengthy caption.
Amongst her words, Victoria spoke of “terrifying fears of loss” and how “love can feel painful” amid his tough health woes.
She concluded the post, writing: “No matter what is happening in your world and keep inviting all of your angels and guides to support you and know that love is always the best choice!”
The author has been sharing regular updates about Shane’s health since his viral encephalitis and shingles last year.
According to the NHS, the medical condition is uncommon but serious and causes inflammation in the brain.
After being hospitalised with an infection, Shane announced his diagnosis in a video to fans wishing them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Reflecting on when he became ill, Victoria told The Sunday Independent: “I noticed it on his face. His eye was getting red and began to close over. I called the doctor and the doctor said it was very dangerous so we had to get him to the hospital straight away.
“The hospital explained to me that shingles can go into your brain and that’s what happened to Shane so now they want to keep him on a drip for two weeks.”
She went on to say he appeared to be “perfectly normally now” before falling ill again.
