Priti Patel has apologised to King Charles after a leaked memo suggested she supported calls for Prince Andrew to get his £3million security back.

The former Home Secretary has said sorry for causing “embarrassment and difficulties” after she is claimed to have sent an email calling for a review of the disgraced Duke of York’s protection.

Andrew lost his taxpayer-funded police guards after giving his HRH title and stepping back from royal duties in 2019 following his disastrous BBC Newsnight interview.

However the royal is said to be determined to get his taxpayer-funded security team back and even won the backing of Dame Priti , who emailed King Charles’s principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, suggesting a review of the Andrew’s protection could be considered, the Sun revealed. Sir Clive has no power over royal security arrangements.

Since the email came to light, Dame Priti issued the following statement: “It is disappointing that this correspondence has been leaked into the public domain and I apologise to His Majesty for the embarrassment and difficulties the publishing of this correspondence has caused.”
