Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specs tipped, launch expected in Q1, 2024
Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specs (leaked)
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 details have been shared by tipster Digital Chat Station. The first bit of detail we learn is that the chipset has the model number: SM7550. Here’s everything else the tipster tipped:
- Process: The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is said to be built on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process, just like the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 before it. Now, it is not clear whether this is going to be an enhanced 4nm like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The reason Qualcomm isn’t moving to the 3nm process is probably because Apple has reportedly procured all the 3nm chips from TSMC for its iPhones and Macs.
- Core structure: Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 will apparently comprise a prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, three performance cores (perhaps Cortex A715) running at 2.4GHz frequency, and four efficiency cores at 1.8GHz clock speed.
Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 has one Cortex-X2 prime core running at 2.91GHz, three Cortex-A710 performance cores clocked at 2.49GHz, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores running at 1.8GHz frequency. So, the max clock speed from the prime core is lower on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
- Graphics: The GPU in use is reportedly Adreno 720, while its precursor had an Adreno 725 GPU.
These specs are however an upgrade over the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 that launched in September this year. So, Qualcomm could be stacking up more options in the mid-range segment. Another guess is that this would be done to lower the cost for OEMs.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 launch timeline (expected)
According to tipster Yogesh Brar, Qualcomm could announce the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the first quarter of 2024. In his post on X, Mr Brar also says the chipmaker should price the chip better this time around and that would lead to more demand. Redmi is said to be its launch partner and we could see its and other OEM announcements following the launch.
