Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd eye £7m bargain, Arsenal bid rejected, Chelsea want £52m ace | Football | Sport

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has revealed that the Magpies will be targeting marquee signings when the transfer window finally opens as they prepare for the return of Champions League football to St James’ Park next season.

“Yeah, there would be players [on the list] that we would classify as under that bracket,” said Howe earlier today.

“For me, it is more about the role they can fulfil in the team. If that is viewed positively or as a marquee signing then great.

“I am not necessarily thinking in my mind we have to have one of those players that ticks that box for the supporters.

“As much as I’d love to do that, it is about finding the right player in the right position that can make us better.”
